I too had purchased Nero 9 off thier website and upon install didn't find any options to set/unset Nero as the default program for all those file types it takes over (without asking) and for a while I had to put some of the mess Nero caused back to order. Wasn't happy with the product and when I called Nero I was told a customer has to pay for tech support....now that is both greedy and unprofessional especially concerning new (not 1 hour old) customers and install issues...and I tried getting a refund....no luck! I for one would jump on any band wagon to see these tatics stop from this crappy company!
nero sucks
I 2 bought Nero 9 download but now that I bought it I can't
get a response from Nero's support we should ban together and giveem a class
action lawsuit they are nothing but a
bunch of white coler

I am new here and I have only been using Nero for a little while and the problem that you say happened to me also. There is an option to select file associations during installation, however, this does not show up when you install this on Windows Vista, not sure why.
You can permanently change the file associations to the program of your choice, do this.
In Windows Explorer - Right click on the file you wish to open, from the shortcut menu select 'Open With' and then select 'Choose Program' at the bottom. When the list has refreshed, click on the program that you want to use to open the file and check the little box that says "Always use this program to open this kind of file" then select 'OK'
Once you select OK your will see your PC screen flicker as Windows changes the file associations and then your file should open with your selected program. The trick is the check the little box if you want to permanently associate the files with the selected program.
This can be used for pretty much any file type with that you wish to associate with another program
Hope this helps a few out there
