iPhone, a perspective from a gadget whore

posted by bigmtnskier at 2 years ago

I will admit, I was totally blown away when I saw the iPhone unveiled this past January.   The interface blew me away, it's capabilities and features were nothing like any cell phone had previously.   Already a Cingular/AT &T customer I quickly added my name to the list of those who wanted to be the first one to get the phone.   Months past by and I could hardly wait to get this phone.   Within a month of the phone's official release I started to do some more research and learned in greater detail that the iPhone would just NOT be for me, I was very disappointed and frustrated.   Although I have had the opportunity to play with a few of these phones, it's very impressive and beyond my expectation, however Apple completely neglected the business user.   I am of the opinion that I do not want to carry 2 devices for ANY reason.   I have had a PDA since the mid 90's and when the Treo came out I was all over it.   I am so accustom to having 1 device a combo cell phone/PDA that I think Apple missed the boat for us smartphone users, but what Apple really missed was how could they EXPECT ANYONE business or consumer user to have a $600.00 phone with a NON-REMOVABLE battery.   I think Apple made a SERIOUS mistake here.   I understand their business desire here, but they disregarded their customers needs to be able to have multiple batteries if charging is not an option.

Here are the flaws I don't like about the iPhone:

  1. No 3G technology, I mean for $600.00 bucks I want high speed on my phone, sure there is WiFi, but what if you can't get WiFi for free where you need it, you should have 3G to download your mail quickly.
  2. Synchronization with Exchange, a must for business users
  3. Battery, Battery, Battery, my battery goes dead because I am on a conference call where I can't plug my phone in, I want to be able to switch batteries, no can do!
