Simple, but secure steps to ensure a clean Nero installation

posted by bigmtnskier at 2 years ago

Many people probably are aware that it is best to disable Virus and/or Firewall software prior to installing a robust application such as Nero.   This is largely due to the fact that DLL files (Dynamic Link Library files) can conflict with virus and firewall settings, thus causing a corrupted installations.   One thing I have seen over the years when people disable their security is they forget to disable their internet connection . This is a HUGE mistake if you forget to disable your internet connection because your visible internet connection will now be attacked with worms and trojans immediately and will cause you much bigger problems then your sure to be corrupted Nero installation.   Follow these very simple steps anytime you are installing Nero or upgrading Nero:

  1. Disable your internet connection easiest by disable your Ethernet card or Wireless card via Network Connections and right clicking 'disable'
  2. Disable your virus software (make sure they do not reactivate when you re-boot)
  3. Disable your firewall software (make sure they do not reactivate when you re-boot)
  4. Install your Nero software
  5. Clean up your registry (another topic I will discuss later)
  6. Re-boot your machine
  7. Enable your firewall software
  8. Enable your virus software
  9. Enable your internet connection
  10. Download or stream your favorite media with safety and confidence!

LISTEN TO THIS GUY, HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH!!!!

This is extreamly good advice....BigJim (Portland, Oregon)

PS...I just installed Nero 8.1 over top of Nero 7 and it did not install properly the first time. I then downloaded the CLEAN TOOL and ran that which got rid of 95% of Nero 7, however I had to go into the control panel and manually delete some remnants of the Nero 7 components that the cleaning tool would not remove. The second time I attempted the 8.1 installation, NO PROBLEMS. Now if I could jus get the BACKUP of the entire disk feature to work...NO LUCK SO FAR...It neede more work to be compatible with the VISTA ULTRA OS.

Response to registry fear
Using registry cleaners does require some knowledge of what you are doing, however I would suggest getting JV16 Tools, it is simple and gives you the option of how aggressive you want to be.  Furthermore it enables you to back-up what you are doing so if you mistakenly mess something up you can put it back the way it was before.

Registry Fear

Twice I had to reformat reinstall OS from reg-cleaners. I am hesitant to mess with my registry . I even had a problem with a registry change that a microsoft tech. walked me through to solve a different problem. After his help my start button did not open anymore.

Yep another reinstall after 5hours on the phone with a PC expert trying to fix the error he caused.

I know I don't know enough to mess with my registry and that I am sure of. LOL
