Digging Deeper into Nero Move it |
The first thing you’ll want to do with Move it, once you’ve got it installed on your system, is use it to index your files. Well, before that, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got all the devices you want to grab files from (especially cameras and camcorders) connected to your PC. Then, you can use Move it’s automated indexing feature to arrange your files the way you want them, device by device. You can create playlists, photo albums, and all sorts of directory structures, using Move it’s simple system, it’s actually quite easy to do.
Even better, Move it allows you to easily change the metadata info on any of your files (just right click), regardless of source or type. You can change band info on the MP3’s from your iPod, date and time stamps on videos from your camcorder, etc. This makes life a heck of a lot easier than it would be if you had to individually open the appropriate program for each of these devices and swap out the metadata, so kudos to Nero for including this functionality.
Another nice thing that you can do, if you want to get into a more power-user level, is to use Move it to upload your media directly to the internet with a couple of easy clicks. While Move it comes standard with some basic profiles (for My Nero and MySpace), you’ll probably need to create your own uploading profiles for your favorite sharing sites. The easiest way to do this is to use Move it’s built-in customization menus to set up a “Custom Profile” with your account settings, including the url, your login and password, and what kinds of things you want to allow Move it to upload and download. Using this function, Move it can help you connect directly to your favorite websites, and move content easily back and forth.
Finally, one of the best deep-level functions of Move it is the ability to sync files among multiple devices simultaneously, ensuring that the content among them is the same. Move it will automatically transcode content from any device it recognizes, to any device it recognizes – based on your settings, of course – with a press of the “Sync” button (which sits in the middle of the main Move it GUI). This means you can plug multiple iPods into your computer, and make sure they all have the same music on them, or that you can plug in a single camcorder and multiple USB drives, and put your videos from the camcorder onto those drives with a single button push. Major time saver, people.
At any rate, I’m going to continue playing with Move it – and I’m doing my best not to get too technical with the blog here – and I’ll have more, even deeper info for you in my next installment.
