First Impressions - Nero Move it

posted by NeroDude at 7 months ago

What can you do with Nero Move it? As it turns out, quite a lot of stuff. I took a look at it over the weekend, and was surprised at just how simple it is to use. As long as you’re using a supported device (and you’ll want to check here to make sure your device is supported), Move is pretty much plug and play.

Move it really has two major uses: to aggregate your media, and then to distribute it to various devices from a central location (or, to move it directly from one device to another) without having to hassle with converting formats and resizing stuff. Aggregating is pretty simple – you can use an automated tool to go searching for all the media on your PC, or you can just point Move it to the folders you want it to catalog. You can also rip media directly from primary sources like CDs.

Transferring is also pretty easy to do, although the GUI has something that might confuse first-timers. Although there are devices listed on both side columns, people will naturally tend to think one side contains the “From” devices (i.e., those devices from which media is being taken) and the other contains the “To” devices. In fact, if you look carefully, you’ll notice that both sides contain the same list of devices, and act interchangeably. Once you’ve got that figured out, though, the whole thing becomes very straightforward. You can sync up all your devices en masse with files from the aggregated library on your local hard disk, just as you’d do with iTunes, for example, or you can choose individual files to move to individual devices, one by one. All it takes is a few clicks on a list, really.

Move it also has the cool feature of being able to download and aggregate content from certain social networking and video sites, like YouTube and My Nero (although apparently the YouTube functionality is still in the works). This functions just like with any other media, except that you’ll need to enter your login(s) for the sites in question in order to access your account and be able to rip videos. Other than that, though, you can grab stuff directly from the internet and send it straight to your iPod with a few clicks. Actually pretty nifty.

Anyway, this entry is just an intro to the functions of Move it. The next entries in this series will go over some more details, and will have some real-world use cases to help you guys get as good as me at using Nero products… which, luckily, won’t be too hard!

I Installed a trial a couple of months ago... Then I stared it up for the first time and directed my media file to MoveIt (40GB of Pix & 100GB of Video).... then Move It attempts to scan thru all of them and put it in the catalogue I assume (before it'll work).... But the whole process took more than 24 Hrs (Yes.... I left the XP PC on for more than 24Hrs) but the program refuse to work till the process is done and I simply couldn't wait for it to finish.... After trying it a couple of times.... I decided to uninstall it.... Why does it takes forever just to put in the files while the Free Picasa program finish the same task in just a couple of hours?!

Have a look at:

Seems like Move It has done a great job...
