Differences Among Nero Versions - A Quick Guide

posted by NeroDude at 4 years ago

There've been some questions on My Nero regarding the capabilities of the various different versions of the Nero software available.   The biggest differences are among the various versions of Nero Essentials , which is the Nero OEM suite, and which comes in several "flavors. "  There's also been some questions about the differences between Nero 7 Ultra Edition and Nero 7 Premium .

First off, Ultra and Premium:

Basically, Premium Reloaded is the version of Nero 7 currently available in Europe and Asia and Ultra Edition is the version available in the Americas, the only major difference between these two versions is that Premium Reloaded includes "LabelFlash " whereas Ultra Edition does not.   Other than that, the two products are practically identical.

Nero 7 Essentials, is the version of Nero that you might get if you purchased a PC or an optical drive, and Nero was bundled with that product.   Typically, Nero 7 Essentials does not feature as much functionality as the retail versions of Nero.   There are three typical versions of this OEM suite, number 1, 2, and 3.   However, depending on what product your Nero 7 Essentials was bundled with, you may have a very different set of functionality from another bundled version.

Here's a quick breakdown:

All OEM Suites :

  • Nero Express instead of Nero Burning ROM
  • No Nero Wave Editor
  • No Nero SoundTrax
  • No Nero Image Drive
  • Trial version of Nero Digital Encoding Plugins

OEM Suite # 1 :

  • No Support for DVD, SVCD or MPEG-2
  • Nero Vision 4 Essentials SE instead of Nero Vision 4
  • No video editing
  • No DVD+/-VR support
  • No DVD/SVCD Authoring
  • No Nero Recode
  • No support for MPEG-2 streaming in Nero Media Home
  • Photosnap Essentials SE instead of Phostosnap Essentials
  • No Dolby Digital 2-Channel Plugin
  • No DVD-Video Multichannel Plugin
  • Nero Burn Plugin Essentials SE instead of Burn Plugin Essentials
  • No Nero Media Streaming Plugin
  • No Nero BackitUp 2

OEM Suite # 2 :

  • Nero Vision 4 Essentials SE instead of Nero Vision 4
  • No video editing
  • No DVD+/-VR support
  • No DVD/SVCD Authoring
  • No Nero Recode
  • Photosnap Essentials SE instead of Phostosnap Essentials
  • No Dolby Digital 2-Channel Plugin
  • Nero Burn Plugin Essentials SE instead of Burn Plugin Essentials
  • No Nero Media Streaming Plugin
  • No Nero BackitUp 2

OEM Suite # 3 :

  • Nero Vision 4 Essentials instead of Nero Vision 4
  • 30-day trial of Nero Recode
  • Nero Burn Essentials Plugin

Phew!   Some list, right?   Well, if you find you're having a problem playing a DVD with Nero Showtime, or editing video with Nero Vision, be sure to check your version info and see if your copy of Nero actually has the functionality you're looking for.

Also, don't forget to update your version of your Nero software regularly!   We offer new update releases pretty often, so always make sure you're up to date.   An easy way to check your version info is to open up Nero Burning ROM or Nero Express, pull down the "Help " menu and click on "About Nero [Burning ROM or Express] "  The version info is about midway down in the window that will appear.

Perhaps someone can help with this.  I had Nero 7 Essentials OEM on my computer.  I updated it today.  It said, "Must delete flies before installing update."  I said "ok."  It delted Nero 7, but never installed the updated version.  Now it's gone.  Any ideas how to get this back on my computer without having to buy it again?

    Nero 8/64Bit Capable?
Just bought a fabulous HP AMD 64Bit Phenom Quad Core with built in TV and Wi Fi and 8GB of memory.  Smokin'!  Need to know if my Nero 8 is optimized for 64Bit or is it stuck on stupid at 32Bit?.  I currently have a Compaq Presario (may they rot in hell) with XP Home and of course am moving to Vista Premium (God help me) on the new system.  I know I'll pay for that by spendingt the next two years before I upgrade again, downloading fixes and patches, but to get the system I wanted the only option was Vista.  Help someone out there in the great beyond?!

    Nero7 (7.10.1.2)

    Hi NeroDude,

I have downloaded Nero7 version 7.10.1.2 from Nero.com web site and I'm very happy with it.
I have no interest in Nero8 what so ever, I just want to purchase a serial number that will work for the above version and willing to pay full price for that. Any idea what should I do? Do you think Nero8 serial number will work for Nero7?

    Thanks in advance,

    Seth.
