Nero Recode or AutoGK?

posted by JXP2307 at 2 years ago

I recently had a friend bring to my attention that for h.264 conversion, AutoGK was the better route than Nero Recode....

I beg to differ....

I did a little testing and found the following....

For the same movie, using basically the same output settings, (2 pass encode) AutoGK took almost 45 minutes longer than Nero Recode to complete the conversion. The quality of the video was not nearly as good, and I found the interface lacking.

One other point to make. Using Recode, one does NOT have to have the DVD files on your HDD previous to the encode. Nero Recode will take it straight from the disc, and convert it. I had to use Recode anyway to get the files to my HDD to even use AutoGK.

In my opinion, (and it is just that... my opinion) There is no comparison between the two.

You get what you pay for. ..

Well...

Like I stated this was a test for h.264 conversion only...

I know that gordian knot will do things that Nero will not.  But we are talking legal backups here...

AutoGK has hidden talents
AutoGK will copy the most heavily protected DVDs available, Nero Recode is meant for home videos.

hmz, this is a bit like comparing Apples with Oranges

I am an avid user of Recode _and_ AGK.

Nero recode cannot adequately burn-in subtitles for files that I'd like to view on my iPod and AGK can.

I'm inclined to call both tools as complementary.
