Please Help. Blu-ray Movie Playback Not Working!

posted by Essinger at 1 year ago

I bought the Pioneer Blu-ray BDC-2202 player. It works fine for playing movies through WinDVD, but it just outputs as stereo. There are some post on this site indicating that Nero 8 will play BluRay movies with the plugin. So I thought I'd get Nero for playing the movies in surround sound.

After buying both the retail Nero 8 Ultra edition and the Blu-ray\HD-DVD plugin I have not been able to get blu-ray movies to play at all. Evertime I try to play a blu-ray movie with Showtime 4 I get a message warning me about "unexpected results " with HD video (so at least the software seems to know what the disk is.) When I hit okay I get this message "Internal error. Cannot build graph. The application may be installed incorrectly. "

I have done clean reinstalls of  the app several times. My software is fully updated to the latest version. My plugin is registered.  Nero reports that my software is ready to play blu-ray movies. I have tried with and without Hardware acceleration. I have tried with and without InCD. I can play DVDs. I can play HD video from files in many formats including MPEG2/4 and VC-1. I can even play protected WMVs and DVR-MS files.

I have tried three different Blu-ray movies -- "Casino Royale, " "Donnie Brasco, " and "Die Hard. " Nothing works. Again, they all work fine with WinDVD.

I am runinng XP-MCE with a ATI HD 2600 XT video card, an AMD X2 3800+ processor, and 1 GB RAM.    I feel like I've blown a hundred bucks for nothing. Is anyone out there actually playing blu-ray commercial movies with this software? Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

ati HD 2600 XT issue

Essinger

When I had this product Nero infomed me that there was no resolution to users having ATI's 2600 XT.

If you have this ATI card to the best of my knowledge you can not play blu-rays with Nero.

I recommend getting another product.

Mr Chuck 999 said that they were working on an update but that was 4 months ago.

Does anyone know the status of this problem?

thanks,

Joseph

You have big problems

Hello,

It is not possible for the Rename Codec program to trigger any other program....all it does is search for and when you select them it will rename codecs that are known to Microsoft as being a problem. Thats it.

If you have unexpected results (and yours have certainly never been reported by anyone else in over 6 years of using it) then you have some serious problems elsewhere.

If as you say you were not offered any codecs to rename then the program just sat there waiting for you to exit it...there is nothing else it can do.

EVERY media file on modern windows programs are played through the DirectX interface unless you specifically tell the program you are using to use some other method. Have you done that ?

Your H264VDecHPDll.dll seems to be related to ULead software from an extremly brief search of the internet and because of the number of entries found it looks as though it is also a problem. I do not believe it is a codec though, at least not in the nowmal usage of that term. Do you have Ulead software installed?? Is it the latest version? What other graphics software do you have installed (of any kind)

With regard to continually reinstalling DirectX. You only need to do it once (and get a clean install) If you are having to do it each time you install a game, thats an indication that you have other problems.

Back to running the Rename Codec program. As you seem to have so many other problems what with software being triggered yet no entries found...even though your info tool says that at least one known problem codec exists on your machine.......well, I think its time you asked your supplier to demonstrate that the hardware and software you have is configured properly. I strongly suggest you do not use RC.EXE anymore until you have the other issues sorted out. There are too many conflicting reports here.

It would be a good idea I think to get someone who is properly qualified to take a hands on look at your computer. From your last message it seems to me that you have a few other problems that need sorting out.

Sorry that this is all very negative

Best Wishes.....John Kelly

Re: Rename Codecs

I ran your program. It triggered/launched the ATI unistall utility. Is this the expected behavior? I'm not sure whether the progam installed correctly but it did seem to complete. I was not prompted to change any codec names. I ran Showtime again and there was no change. Are you sure that Blu-Ray playback is handled thru the DirectShow filters? I can't play blu-ray thru WMP. When I read the name H264VDecHPDll.dll, I read it as "H.264 Video Decoder High Performance Dynamic-link library" which makes me think the decoding is handled within the dll. Obviously, I'm out of my element here. But I think due to the special protections employed by Blu-Ray discs it seems resonable that they have some sort of proprietary decoding scheme. I will try reinstalling DirectX, but as I've done that about six times recently for various games, I would be suprised if that changes anything.

Thanks much for your help.

Rename Codecs

Run it before the problem program

allow it to rename all the codecs it finds

It only looks for the ones that were known by Microsoft at the time I wrote the program

Run the problem program and determine if there are any improvements

Whether there are improvements or not, run Rename Codecs after you are finished and restore the codecs.....you dont need to remember which ones...the program takes care of that for you.

If there are improvements you need to discover which codec was the problem...for those running Movie Maker it is every one that it found !!! for you though it may only be one of them....to determine which one you would need to rename them one at a time and try your program...I would personally start with Intervideo. Whichever codec is the problem....the program that installed it needs to be updated or removed.

If there are no improvements then you have eliminated all of the known problem codecs and you must start looking elsewhere for your solution.

The program is in use my several thousand people. From the feedback about 10% of them found it did not solve their problem. Out of those 10% almost all of them had not properly updated to the latest DirectX even though they claimed it was already installed properly. Their solution was to download the full DirectX instalation program and install it whilst offline from the internet. Out of those who did as directed maybe 6 still found that it did not help. I never managed to sort their problems

Good luck with yours !!

Best Wishes.....John Kelly
