Nero8, installation crash |

I installed Nero 8 (from a CD) and after opening StartSmart got a registration window. After registering it crashed "...encountered problem and must close.... ". DrWatson Debugger crashed... same message. When I try to open using the individual programs nothing happens.
I used the Clean Tool before I installed.
Looked through my Programs/Nero Directory and Nero7 folder is still there with stuff in it!
Of note is that the CD software said Demo and Trial!
I've contacted Nero Support but was wondering if anyone in the Forum might be able to help in the meantime.

Activation
Good Point, but activation is a small ##.k file and is located in an area that is not acsessable to anyone, but as for the connection for activation you, are fine with Dialup, Activation takes no time at all and is verry small in the programing function.
it's just that Nero is a large File.
Or As what artman had stated in his post, he has Somegood point's also.
and then there is the upgrade dvd from nero, but I would bet there will be a new version out soon, but i am not sure, and then it could be late next month to. "I just don't know"

Hi , Aprildawn , and ken 1701 , I was floating around the site , had noticed your blog earlier , but not much I could add to what ken said , a few minutes ago , I happened across something in the minimum requirments while looking some stuff up in refrence to another blog ....
I found something , I am not sure that it applies to you , no nero 8 expert or anything , but after reading the discription of your crash , then this coment , I sort of added one and one...
excerpt from nero system requirments ....
Internet connection with DSL 1000 speed or higher for the registration and the update of the Nero 8 help files and other functions. It is also required for the activation of the complete functional range (DVD, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and AVC), which will be required 30 days after installation. This activation is free of charge. The costs for the Internet connection are carried by the user.

as I said I am no expert on nero 8 , ken would surely know better than I but I saw that ,and thought of your blog....
is it possible for you to take your computer case to your fathers and install / activate on his internet ??? if it is a possibility , I think it is worth consideration , you would be able to quickly acquire tools for a clean install , the latest update , but I am not in any way sure you can accelerate the activation of the mpeg / avc formats ????? I really have no idea how that is done.
hope you get your video underway , would suggest to you that nero 8 is not the only tool for that job , there are many , your finished video will bring more reward than a battle with a single piece of software , and you can always set a license aside for a spell....

Sorry, I forgot to answer the question about "Igor Pavlov"
Igor Pavlor developed a compresion Alprogram call 7-zip.
7-Zip is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license.
7-zip is an open source program to decompress and compress data, it is safe and Nero uses it in Nero 8 to compress the Program.
I use it personaly, and it is free, It will compress and decopress files for free, and handel all of them, for no cost.

Dawn,
Any of the MVP's here on the my nero site would be able to help, but most of us that answer certian Blog's will just stick to the ones they answer directly, allot of other's will chime in if we forget to add something or just get lost. :-)
I see your problem and it is allot more common with the first release of Nero 8, the problem is that Nero must have a clean install from any privious version or the New codecs will get (Messed up) "no other better words at this time for that".
Dawn, if you are able to download the Nero 8 update and all the addon packages that come with it, you can use your Serial number to activate it, All versions of Nero Trial or Demo are the Retail version, You just need to put in your Serial number on install of the (Trial, Update) and it will convert to the full Retail release.
You can order a DVD for 12.00$ or so from the Nero site, But it is the same thing as the Download, And due to your Dial up account I can see that it is not an option for you to Download 400 megs of data.
If you have a chance to get the downloads from your Fathers and burn them to a CD or DVD at his place and bring it home and install it, it might be a better option for you, at least for the cost.
Please be carefull on CD or DVD's, If they come from Nero Direct you are safe, But if Not, you must be carefull about rouge Programs with Hidden Keylogers in them that might not be readely detectable on install.

Ken, I couldn't find anything at the top right but when I opened My Nero you were listed as a "Top List" Buddy. I didn't have to approve you which I certainly would have given the question.
Anyway, I've been playing with this off and on most of the day. So far I've run the Clean Tool for both 7 & 8 and still found over a 100 files of Nero stuff still on the machine.
I tried to chat with you (the chat box opened) but couldn't figure out how to send or where to write my chat. Anyway, I've emailed you about the possible other strategy.
